Noora Geagea's exhibition Wannabes Mirror brings together four works in the Atelje gallery space: the video work Wannabes, the series Meditations on Womb Solid in Flux consisting of charcoal drawings, the photographic diptych Your Loss, and the 16 mm short film A Nice Evening. The Juhlasali space features two large-scale digital print photographs from last year's Competition series.
The works in Wannabes Mirror were created during spring and summer 2026, and through them Geagea seeks to capture the pervasive, ever-present sense of contradiction that arises when we witness, in real time through digital channels, man-made environmental destruction and genocide, and yet, in the next moment, carry on with our everyday lives as if nothing had changed, trusting in the continuity of life and hope for the future while doing nothing to act on it.
The theme of the double, the doppelgänger, became the starting point for the exhibition. During the process, Geagea read Naomi Klein's Doppelganger, which she felt made visible the mirror world and the spirit of the times we currently inhabit. The book served as a catalyst for her thinking and gave language to a phenomenon she had already been exploring in her work for some time. Similarly, a question that arose while reading bell hooks's Art on My Mind "what things remain solid for us in flux?" has accompanied the entire working process and shaped the way Geagea has approached her material and subject matter.
